Under directive 2011/24 EU, health care professionals are required to do the following:
- To accept and treat each patient without discrimination, particularly with regard to nationality;
- To help each patient to make an enlightened decision, particularly with regard to treatment options, the availability, quality, and safety of the health care provided, and the possible risks;
- To let the patient know what kind of follow-up care will be necessary in his/her home country and write prescriptions that are compliant with the implementing directive 2012/52 UE
- To draw up straightforward bills and prove straightforward information on rates;
- To provide information on their authorization or registration status, their insurance coverage, or any other type of individual or group professional liability protection;
- To specify whether they have signed rate-related agreements with France’s social security schemes and whether the care they provide is covered by these schemes;
- To add to the patient’s medical record (diagnostics, test results, treatment results, list of pharmaceuticals administered, postoperative results, etc.) and provide a copy of this to the patient once treatment has ended;
- To process the patient’s personal information (collection, storage, or transfer) in accordance with applicable European standards, particularly regulation 2016/679 EU, which is applicable as from May 25, 2018.
