If you are coming from a European Union member State, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, or Switzerland

A) You have a European health insurance card (EHIC)

You are entitled to coverage of any medically necessary care you receive in France through the local health insurance fund (“caisse primaire d'assurance maladie”) that covers the location where you are temporarily staying (to learn more : Using your EHIC in France).

B) You are in possession of an S1 portable document

You will need to register online with the French health insurance system (“Assurance maladie”) on etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr

C) You are not in possession of one of the documents listed above

You are required to have sufficient income to provide for yourself as well as for any members of your family who have come with you to France. The required amount cannot exceed that of France's active solidarity income (“revenue de solidarité active”/ RSA). RSA for a single person amounts to €559.74 / month as from April 1st, 2019.

You will need to register online with the French social security system on etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr

You are coming from a State not listed above

You will need to register online with the French social security system on etudiant-etranger.ameli.fr

N.B.: If you are a student with coverage as a family member of an international civil servant, you will continue to be covered by the international organization's social security scheme if allowed under the scheme's rules.
