Brexit's impact on social protection

publié le 29 juin 2016

By referendum on June 23rd, 2016, the United Kingdom voted to leave the European Union.

For now, and during a transition period that will be used to negotiate the terms of the British exit, the European social security coordination regulations will continue to apply between the United Kingdom and France, as they will between the UK and the other EU/EEA member States and Switzerland. This period of up to 2 years will begin once the United Kingdom has officially notified the European Council of its decision to leave (See statement made at the European Council meeting on June 29th, 2016).

All social security entitlements that result from these regulations as they apply to France-UK relations will be preserved and continue to accrue unchanged during the transition period. This means that the information on our website regarding cross-border situations between our two States is still accurate. In any event, the content and duration of the UK's future negotiations with the European authorities remain unknown.

The Cleiss will update its website with any new information about Brexit's impact on social security entitlements.
